Hey all.
So we arrived in London this morning at 6:24 a.m. During our 9 hour flight, we all made the attempt to get some sleep. I think Ying is the only one who succeeded in this venture. On a more positive note, the plane had a nice selection of movies we could watch on our own individual t.v. screens. And they had solitare. Solid. I think we made a wise decision in starting out in London where everyone speaks English. It made the transition so much easier. We weren't able to check into our hostel yet, so we locked up our luggage in storage and set out to explore the city of London. We may have gotten a little lost, as in we walked 45 minutes in the wrong direction. No matter though, we had maps. When we were finally heading in the correct direction, we actually saw a lot of different things. We ate our first meal in Europe at a little deli where I got coffee and a chocolate croissant. Nothing like being able to have some chocolate for breakfast. We saw Buckingham Palace and saw the British guards standing out front. We also wandered through St. James Garden. We saw some chairs in the park and decided to sit for a bit to rest. Apparently you have to pay to sit in the chairs in the park... whoops. After our wandering, we headed back to the hostel to shower and nap. For dinner we went to Punjabi Indian Restaurant. It was quite delicious... and reasonably priced. After that, we met up with some people from our hostel for a pub crawl. It was a lot of fun because we got to meet new people from all over the world (Sweden, South America, U.S., etc.) and we got to see more of London. We finally called it a night and headed back to the hostel.
Here are some pictures from our first day:
