August 28, 2009: London, Day 3

hey all.
so this morning we went to go watch the changing of the guards. epic fail. today there was no changing of the guards. oh well. instead we took a double-decker bus (awesome... what was extra awesome was the fact that we sat in the very front on the top level of the bus) out to tate museum of modern art. the museum was very interesting. it was even more fun because ying and i were able to recognize the names of the different artists and artwork from our art history class. we were able to name artist's by their work and talk to each other about meanings of some of the works. after the museum we walked across this really cool pedestrian bridge. allison pointed out that it is the same bridge used in the beginning of the 6th harry potter movie. it was actually a really neat bridge. it was very windy on the bridge, but definitely worth it. i probably should have brought my long-sleeve shirt like everyone said i should, but oh well. a little cold air can be refreshing? across the bridge was saint paul cathedral, which was another interesting building with neat architecture. we grabbed lunch from a pret-a-manger, which seems to be a chain in london, and ate on the steps of the cathedral. we were attacked by pigeons as we ate. we took a bus back to the british museum and wandered around a bit. we got to see the rosetta stone, which was really neat because we've learned about it and now we actually got to see it. when we left the british museum, it was of course pouring rain. but it did let up pretty quickly and then there was a pretty rainbow. when we got back to our room, we found confirmation of a mouse roommate. it had bitten through a bag. mice give me the creeps.
we asked one of the hostel employees about local places to hang out and they recommended some fun places to go. we wandered around a bit looking for and trying out their recommendations. then we had dinner in chinatown and continued our wanderings. as we were getting ready for bed, there was a definite mouse sighting by multiple people. disgusting... though the room got picked up pretty quick... i believe he was named timmy...

here are some pictures for the day. i hope you enjoy them.
